Seeing that all had finished their breakfast, Carryl offered to clear away the bowls and wash dishes.  Glendyn asked her to first give Ruskya a clear bill of health to go out and talk with other riders.  She would have rather it be anyone else than Ruskya right then, but she remembered to put on the healer mentality and went to look over his burns.  They were healing nicely, almost too quickly.  She was impressed.  Ruskya received the okay to go out, but with a firm command that if he should get tired, that he should quit.  Duskya assured Carryl that she would see to that.  The three older riders were about to leave when there was a knock at the door.

Duskya opened it to reveal her mother and Kyn.  After receiving a hug, Meredyth walked over to Ruskya.

"What are you doing out of bed, young man?" she demanded.

"Honestly, Mother, I have the healer's permission.  I am doing much better.  I am told that physical healing is thanks to Carryl and the mental healing is thanks to Kyn.  Am I correct, young one?"

Kyn looked up at him shyly, "I just tried to do what you and Rider Glendyn taught me.  I blended it with what Healer Carryl taught me ,and I hoped it worked.  I knew it couldn't hurt anything.  Honestly, I wouldn't have done anything to hurt you, honored rider."

"I know, young one.  I thank you.  You did what a good brave student would do.  You took initiative and because of it I have had the best rest I have had in a long time.  I am now ready to go help others learn how to fight this rider."

Meredyth came near and gazed into Ruskya's eyes.  "Your eyes are clear, but I would like to see the physical wounds.  Not that I don't trust the healer, it's just a mother thing.  I have to see for myself."

Ruskya nodded and took off his tunic for a second time.  His back was healing with no scars, just some red blotches where the turquoise fire had singed through his tunic.  Meredyth was surprised.

"What did you use, Carryl?" she asked.

"Just the leaf you showed me for burns, lady Meredyth," was the reply.

"But that leaf should take three days to have these kinds of results!"

"That's what I thought you had told me," Carryl agreed.  "But you can see for yourself that he has healed."

Meredyth looked at Kyn, "What exactly did you do?"

Kyn looked down, "I used the tea that Healer Carryl had given him, and placed it as a compress on his forehead.  I envisioned it pushing its way into the thoughts.  I also dug down to those thoughts."  Here  he paused and shuddered.  "I then envisioned the tea reaching those nasty thoughts.  I also talked to him.  I told him he needed to live.  I guess I also sent some healing thoughts his ways."

"What nasty thoughts?" Ruskya quietly asked putting a hand on Kyn's shoulder.

"I heard a voice, Ruskya," Kyn answered almost in a whisper.  "It was awful.  He said he would kill you like he had killed your father.  You can't die.  You can't!"

The last was said with emphasis and Kyn flung his arms around the rider weeping.  Ruskya held him and soothed his back.

"I won't die, little one," Ruskya whispered into Kyn's mind.  "I will fight him.  He will not get away with the death of my father or of Wyn's rider—first rider," he amended.

Kyn looked up at him, "Wyn has a new rider?  She's okay?"

Ruskya smiled and nodded, "Respected rider, Kyn, I present to you respected rider Carryl.  Although she is a rider after you, you should still treat her with higher respect because of her age.  She will still be teaching you about healing, but I want you to try to teach her about speaking with us.  I don't know what she will be able to do though.  Do you understand, youngling?"

"Yes, honored rider."  Turning to Carryl he said, "Respected rider, it is an honor to meet you.  I will gladly offer you any assistance you may need in learning about dragons and communicating with other riders.  I will willingly learn from you the art of healing.  I do ask though that I try some more of healing thoughts, please?" he pleaded.

Carryl laughed, "Of course, little one, or should I say, respected rider.  I'll get used to the traditional greetings, but in some ways I like the regular names better."

The others laughed and agreed.

"Well, Meredyth is going to need to get home.  Carryl, would you want to try to do that?  Maybe take Kyn with and on the way back you can discuss what or how he did things."

"Yes, honored rider," Carryl replied.  "May I finish dishes first?"

"Sure," Glendyn answered.  "You may even have some helpers.  Do make sure that you check in with your dragon before leaving.  I know as a healer you would do so, but as a rider, you also need to make sure that you are communicating with her regularly."

"Yes, honored rider."

The others left, leaving Carryl with Meredyth and Kyn to clean up the little cooking area.  The dishes were done in no time at all.  Carryl let Meredyth go gather her things while Kyn called to Wylen.  Carryl went out to Wyn.  The dragon was not there.

In a panic, Carryl called, "Wyn, Wyn, where are you?  Wyn,"

"Peace, little one," Wyn called to Carryl's mind.  "Listen to the conversations and find me.  I am fine."

Carryl calmed down, feeling embarrassed.  She listen to Wyeth and Wryn talking about the wonder of Wyn choosing Carryl.  She heard Wyden telling an older dragon about his part in the rescue of Wyn.  The younger dragons were all talking about how the older ones were saying they were going to go to war.  There was a basic confusion and flurry of conversation.  None of it though seemed to include Wyn herself.  Where was she?  Carryl reached further.  She pictured Wyn in her mind and found her out hunting.  She wasn't really flying, but she wasn't limping along either.  She was taking short flights and returning to walk where she could.  Then Carryl saw the dragon rise up in the air and swoop down in a dive that resulted in a squawk and some creature was in the dragon's talons.  Carryl felt Wyn's joy that she had found food.  When Wyn landed and started to eat, Carryl pulled away.

"Did you find me, little one?" Wyn asked.

"Yes, you went hunting.  How is your wing?"

"It hurts a little, but seems to be healing fine."

"Would you want me to send Kyn to help it heal faster?"

The dragon was a little leery.  "How?"

Carryl explained what all she knew, and then told the dragon that they were going to go to Woolpren.  She asked if Wyn wanted to tag along for some of it, or just meet them on the return.  It was decided that Wyn and Wylen would meet them half way home, but Wyn was going to keep an ear out for Carryl.  Carryl was to let her thoughts be Wyn's the whole way.  Carryl wasn't too sure about that, but agreed.

Kyn showed back up to the abode first.  Carryl asked him about letting her thoughts be her dragon's.  He explained that the work would be the dragon's responsibility.  The dragon would follow and basically see what Carryl saw.  Carryl nodded understanding.

The trip into town was uneventful.  Meredyth said that she would prefer going to the mercantile first to gather a few things she needed at home.  She also could then send some things back with Kyn and Carryl.  Kyn wanted to see his parents; so it was decided that all three would go.
